Description: |
Walking trails in Conwy Valley. A total of 9 trails, all but one of which interconnect with each other and some of which interconect with other trails and walks.
1 is from Trefriw to the river Conwy and is very easy.
2 & 3 are along the flood defence cobs and are full of bird life and are medium and are excellent for allowing a dog to run free when there is no livestock.
4 is a short walk beside waterfalls and the best way to access the remaining walks; this is medium.
5 leads to Llyn Geirionydd, largely through woodland and, except in the spring is usually free of livestock. It is moderately demanding.
8 branches off it and leads to Llanrhychwen church. Large parts are free of liv stock. It poses one problem, which is a stile with no dog door, between the B5106 and trail 1. This can be avoided by returning to Trfriw on the B5106 until just after the Rugby Club and taking the gated road way into the woods, which ends near the start of trail 5. Alternatively, take the green lane on your right, just before the offending style and exit by Llanrwst bridge [waterproof footware is needed if the ground is wet, to negotiate the last 30 yards] cross the bridge and return to trail 1 via the riverside walk [accessed by steps in front of the 1st building on the left].
Trail 5 continues to Llyn Crafnant. You can walk around the lake, using the forest road on the NW side, a footpath around the top and a little used road on the SE east side, where there is a small cafe. The walk can be shortened turning of for the Klondyke lead mill and walking back to Trefriw, via mome wonderful open valley land, but you will need an agile dog to negotiate a very big stile.
The remaining trails offer fantastic views but are very steep.
Trail 9. to Llyn Cowlyd is the longest and highst, being up in the foothills of Carnedd Llewellyn, which affords wondelull mountain scenery. More information is available at trefriwtrails.org.uk.
