Description: | Head off into wood straight ahead and stay on the bridle path, marked with blue. Keep going straight on until you reach the road; cross this road and walk along bridleway in front of a few houses. Cross main road (A46) to another small path into the woods. Stay on this and cross another small road. Take the path which goes steeply uphill, the middle path. Keep on this, when reaching the top bear left and keep going until you reach a gateway on the left with a big notice board. Go through the gate and turn right walking onto Painswick Beacon - beware of golfers! Walk along the right hand side and climb the summit to see wonderful views. Keep walking around the summit (this is an iron age hill fort) until you reach a road. Here you can either walk further along the golf course or turn back and follow a track on left side of beacon. This will take you back to the etrance to the beacon and back into the woods. |
